The Wines

Each variety planted on the estate whether new or old,
traditional or modern, reflects their place in the world. Our
most precious Shiraz, from an 80 year-old vineyard block on the
banks of the mighty Murray, is very low yielding but produces
incredibly intense fruit which results in a wine that is rich
and full of flavour. All Saints Estate’s Marsanne block is the
second largest planting of Marsanne in Australia and our Durif
block yields a wonderful example of this
little-known regional speciality. These wines make up our
flagship Family Cellar range, comprising four wines of
distinction – Chardonnay, Marsanne, Shiraz and Durif. The wines
are made with as little intervention as possible to allow the
distinct characteristics of our site and our vines speak as
clearly as possible and to make elegant, complex wines of
integrity and depth. These award-winning wines gather great
reviews and new fans everywhere they go and are the pride and
joy of owners, Eliza, Angela and Nicholas Brown.
Our Estate range of premium varietal wines are made from
estate grown fruit and deliver distinctive, high quality
wines suitable for drinking now or medium-term cellaring.
The range include whites such as Riesling, Chenin Blanc and
unoaked Chardonnay and reds such as Merlot, Cabernet
Sauvignon, Shiraz and Durif. The core range is regularly
supplemented by delightful limited releases and member-only
wines at our winemaker’s discretion.

History
All Saints Estate is one of Australia’s original wineries,
established in 1864, by two enterprising Scots, George
Sutherland Smith and John Banks. The castle was built in the
1880’s. By the turn of the century, All Saints Estate became
the largest wine storage facility in the southern hemisphere,
and is now an icon of Victoria’s history. The Great Hall, the
main wine storage hall, is lined with huge, 100 year old oak
casks, which are filled with rare Tokay and Muscats. Some of the
fortifieds are up to 80 years old; these form the basis of
future blends. The wines are amongst Australia’s and the world’s
greatest, internationally extolled for their richness and
‘lusciousness’. All Saints Estate won the first gold medal for
Australian wine in 1873 at the London International Exhibition.
The Winemaker
Dan Crane was born in Hampshire in England but has spent most of
his life surrounded by wine and vineyards all over the world.
His career choice was made when he started working at Oddbins a
wine retailer in London, England. His love for wine grew whilst
he spent vintages in France in the summer supporting his
passion. His love also grew for an Australian backpacker called
Terese and followed her back to Australia. After getting married
Dan enrolled in Oenology at the prestigious Roseworthy College
now Adelaide University and duxed the final year. Following
Roseworthy, he spent time winemaking in the Hunter Valley and
Yarra Valley before starting at All Saints Estate, where he says
he feels most at home in the old castle cellars.
The Family

Eliza, Angela and Nicholas Brown form the fourth-generation wine
family who own and run All Saints Estate and St Leonards
Vineyard. Eldest sibling Eliza is at the helm as CEO with
sister, Angela and brother, Nicholas as board directors. Each
brings a wealth of experience gained both in and outside the
wine industry. All share the vision of producing outstanding
premium table wines and Australia’s finest winery experience.
They believe that innovation, youthful passion, a healthy
respect for traditional winemaking and a talented team of people
are the key to delivering that vision. They are honoured to
continue the wine-making tradition established by their father
Peter R Brown, who passed away in a tragic accident in November
2005.
